Alcudia is located on the Northeast coast of Mallorca. Alcudia is one of the most popular resorts on the Balearic Isles, especially with English speakers. It's got miles of golden sandy beaches that stretch all the way from the Port of Alcudia through to Playa de Muro. Although nowadays it's a modern city reliant on mass British tourism, Alcudia was actually founded by the Phoenicians making it the oldest city in Mallorca.
Alcudia has is surrounded by 7kms of curving white beach with palm trees, beach-side cafés and restaurants. You can practice all kinds of water sports here. The water in the bay Is quite shallow making it ideal for families with small children.
The nightlife in Alcudia is more family orientated then in some of the other Balearic resorts. The bars and nightclubs are lively but never rowdy. After around midnight it tends to cater to the younger generation.
Alcudia is like a "home away from home" for the British. You can buy British newspapers, drink pints of bitter here and even order genuine fish, chips and sausages; just like back home, except sunnier!
Needless to say, most people speak English here as there is a large British ex-pat community.
At the northern end of the beach there's an old fishing village called "Port D'Alcudia". You'll find more traditional, Spanish style shops and cafés here. In the back street behind there are some excellent sea food restaurants, well worth seeking out.
Alcudia is an historic town with a lively modern resort (Puerto Alcudia) which has one of the finest beaches in the Mediterranean. |
