Castell d'Alaro is by far the island's most popular hiking trail. It starts off at the town of Alaro and climbs up to a ruined castle and hilltop chapel, where you'll have panoramic views of the sea and plains as far as Palma.
The walk takes around three hours to complete, depending on how many times you stop to take in the spectacular views.
The castle ruins on the hilltop date from the 15th century and completely dominate the surrounding landscape. At the very top there's a restaurant and bar to refresh weary climbers. On Sundays the trail can become quite busy.
